Keenan was also recently invited to speak at the Sagamore American Inn of Court on Wednesday, September 10, in Indianapolis, Indiana.

He highlighted business and intellectual property challenges in the cannabis industry, as well as the impact that potential rescheduling of the drug by President Donald Trump would have on these issues. He discussed:

  • Banking and taxation issues due to federal regulation,
  • Intellectual property dilemmas,
  • Challenges with contract enforcement due to cannabis being illegal federally,
  • Limitations on federal funding for research and testing of marijuana, and
  • Future impacts of rescheduling cannabis from Schedule 1 to Schedule 3.

Keenan represents businesses of all sizes in litigation matters, corporate formation, business development, and protection of intellectual property rights. Since 2017, he has focused his practice on assisting companies operating in the regulated cannabis space, including hemp, marijuana, and ancillary endeavors.

NICS brings together professionals from various sectors within the cannabis industry, including legal professionals, members of the scientific community, employment and human resource associations, and more. The symposium offers professionals the opportunity to develop their understanding across these disciplines, giving them a more comprehensive knowledge of cannabis-related issues and bridging gaps between fields that are typically practiced separately.

The Sagamore Inn was founded in 1997 to offer a forum for attorneys or judges to meet and discuss ethical issues relating to the practice of law. The Inn of Courts held their inaugural meeting on March 18, 1998, and the Sagamore Inn became the 314th American Inn of Court, in a movement that has now grown to nearly 400 Inns nationwide.
