Cannabis Partner Thomas G. Haren recently shared his insights on the latest regulations and key updates from the cannabis industry in articles for Cleveland.com and Crain’s Cleveland Business, as well as on the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association’s (CMBA) Law and the Land podcast.

In the first of two articles for Cleveland.com, “Cannabis in Ohio 2025: Strict regulations yield safer market, experts say,” Tom examines the current state of the cannabis industry in Ohio. He shares that the market has remained relatively stable compared to other cannabis industries, such as Michigan, largely because the recreational market in Ohio was built on the framework of an established, well-regulated medical marijuana program. He also predicts that prices will continue to decline as the industry expands.

Tom also contributed his thoughts in another article for Cleveland.com, “Growing pains persist for Ohio cannabis industry one year after legalization” (subscription required). The article discusses the uncertainty business owners in Ohio’s cannabis industry are facing after a year of recreational legalization.

In the Crain’s Cleveland Business article, “Trump revives weed industry’s long-shot hopes — and gives local cannabis players a lift,” (subscription required) Tom explains how rescheduling marijuana could stimulate growth in the industry, including increased construction and development. He cautioned, however, that the process is not guaranteed, and even if it moves forward, could take months or years to complete.

In the CMBA Law and the Land podcast, “The Inside Story on Ohio’s Marijuana Industry – Thomas G. Haren and Chris Schmitt,” Tom discusses his outlook for Ohio’s cannabis industry, including the prediction that it will grow into a billion-dollar market. He also reflects on marijuana’s path to legalization, his passion for the field, and how the industry’s future will shape Ohio’s economy.

Tom is one of the most sought-after attorneys serving the Ohio and national cannabis industry, in which he represents licensed operators and ancillary service providers in medical and adult-use markets. He advises clients on license acquisition, corporate transactions, litigation, day-to-day business matters, strategic planning, municipal law, and regulatory compliance.
