Frantz Ward is pleased to announce that attorneys Mia L. Ulery
and Justin W. Younker
have been named to the On-Board Cleveland Class of 2019. The program will begin with a retreat on September 20-21, 2018.
On-Board Cleveland is a program of the Cleveland Leadership Center. It is a leadership and civic development experience tailored for early-career professionals. The curriculum is designed to enhance communication skills, strengthen workplace presence, create an awareness of the civic realm, and better connect employees to their organizations and civic engagement opportunities.
Mia earned her B.A. from the University of California, Davis and her J.D., cum laude
, from Case Western Reserve University School of Law, where she also earned honors in the business law concentration. While there, Mia advised and represented entrepreneurs and local businesses in the Community Development Clinic as a Certified Legal Intern. Among other experiences, she established a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization and advised a small social enterprise on various contractual and compliance issues. Mia also served as a Law Clerk for the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Northern District of Ohio where she assisted both the criminal and civil divisions in ongoing investigations and cases. Currently she advises financial institutions, suppliers, and other corporate creditors on several aspects of bankruptcy and commercial matters including enforcing pre-bankruptcy creditor remedies, claims administration, and defending against claims for alleged preferential transfers. Her practice also includes counseling businesses on compliance and governance issues related to data privacy and protection. She enjoys spending her spare time as a direct patient care volunteer with the Hospice of the Western Reserve.
Justin earned his B.A., cum laude
, from the College of Wooster and earned his J.D., magna cum laude
, from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law. He was a legal writing tutor, recipient of the Law Justice Scholarship, and the Editor-in-Chief of the Cleveland State Law Review
. During law school, Justin joined Frantz Ward as a Summer Associate. Additionally, he served as a Judicial Extern to the Honorable Judge John Russo, Administrative Judge to the Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas. Prior to law school, Justin taught secondary English in rural Alabama through Teach for America. In Alabama, Justin served as a kicking coach for his school's football team, chaired the school's chapter of the National Honor Society, initiated the District's AP program, and co-founded Higher Academics Summer School, an intensive summer boarding school for college-bound students. After his time in Alabama, he worked as a Dean of Students in a Breakthrough Charter School in Cleveland.
