Climate Change/Renewable Energy

Climate change presents an unprecedented array of new risks and opportunities to businesses and governments.  The challenges include new and impending regulation to control the emissions of green house gases, rising energy prices, and increasing demand for green products from customers.  Global climate change also presents significant new opportunities.  These include sustainable development as well as trading emission credits for reduction of green house gases.  Frantz Ward has the expertise to help our clients minimize risk and seize opportunities in this dynamic area.

Some have called worldwide development of renewable energy as the dawn of a new industrial revolution.  On May 1, 2008, Ohio joined more than twenty other states in adopting a mandatory renewable energy portfolio standard (RPS).  Frantz Ward took an active role in the advocacy efforts that helped shape this legislation.  In the coming years, there will be significant opportunities to develop renewable energy sources in Ohio.  Our attorneys can assist in the permitting of these new sources of power.  We can also provide legal counsel on the transactional issues that arise with development of renewable energy, including the sale and transfer of renewable energy credits (RECs).
